This is a very rural location in the dalles, oregon. You are invited to come up for the day, or spend the entire week-end. If you spend the night, be sure to bring a tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, pillow, water, TOWEL, folding chair and flashlight. this is all about fun & friendship!
You will be in the middle of the woods with a grass strip, outhouse, INDOOR HOT SHOWER (JUST LIKE HOME), deck, NEARBY pond, tree house and lots of great friends! DEPENDING ON WEATHER WE HAVE HAD FROM 20 TO 60 PEOPLE join us. we EAT a lot, hike, TARGET PRACTICE NEARBY AND enjoy great conversation around the campfire. it is an extremely relaxing week-end.
FOOD IS provided, but please feel free to bring any snacks or treats to share with the group! Breakfast will be ham, eggs & fried potatoes. Lunch will be the main meal of the day and I will be at the grill serving hamburgers & all the fixings along with various side dishes. dinner will be “make your own” and will include meats such as ham & turkey for sandwiches and of course hot dogs with various side dish choices. There will be plenty of food & lots to snack on. Grills are available if you’d like to COOK YOUR OWN!

GUITARS, VIOLINS, HARMONICAS, HORNS, TAMBOURINES, YOU NAME IT! starting sunday at noon, guns can be shot in a designated area. the shooting range is to the west of the camping area /landing strip. shooting is only allowed to the west in the valley and into the hill. starting this sport on sunday will allow saturday to be a day of solitude for those who just want to enjoy the peace & quiet of the great outdoors. The rest of the time (Sunday & Monday) enjoy the sport and have fun! archery equipment can be used at any time and a range has been set up SouthEast of the camping area.
BEHAVED ANIMALS ARE WELCOME. BUT, All animals must be on leash when airplanes are taking off or arriving. Please remember that there will gun shots (starting at noon on sunday) & airplane noise which may frighten your animal. And please, no animals on the deck when we are eating.
IF flying in, Please do not fly in unless you notify Carmen to discuss procedures. Her phone numbers are 360/892-1817, 503/221-2171 or cell is 503/320-9120. cell phone will not work (When driving) past The Dalles but will work again once you arrive on top at Carmen’s property. her e-mail is eastman123@comcast.net. The elevation is around 2500 feet. Coordinates are 45 degrees 29.00 north - 121 degrees 19.98 west. We will be monitoring frequency 123.40.
it is a 35 – 40 minute flight. This is a one way strip where you land uphill to the west and take off downhill to the east. The grass strip is about 900 - 1,000 ft, but very adequate if you SLOW DOWN on final. Please be familiar with landing on short grass mountain strips if you plan on flying in. Leave room between each landing to allow time to park the airplane that just landed. IT'S THE STRIP WITH THE YELLOW WINDSOCK. ABSOLUTELY NO GO-AROUNDS! FLY in AT YOUR OWN RISK!
IF DRIVING - Go to The Dalles “downtown” exit. You’ll pass Staples, curve around a mexican food restaurant and then Burgerville. You will see a lighted Washington FEDERAL SAVINGS bank sign on the left with the time & temperature. that is Washington Street. Go south (turn right) on Washington which goes past the courthouse & up the hill). The road turns into "Kelly", then "E. 16th". At the top of the hill, turn right – stay on lower road about 2 blocks. You’ll see Polehn Farms on your right then take a right on "Dry Hollow Road". Stay on Dry Hollow Road but veer left when it forks (going up a hill). It will take you onto "3 mile road". Keep going until the pavement ends. Go on gravel road about 4 miles until you reach "Dutch Flat Road". Turn left and follow Dutch Flat Road up then down the hill. Keep on Dutch Flat Road (about 2 miles) and when you get almost to the bottom of the hill you will see a green gate on the right. Go through that gate. I will have signs posted from there to the property. Follow the signs. It will take about 20 - 25 minutes after you enter the green gate to get to the top.
THIS IS A ROUGH ROAD. A TWO WHEEL DRIVE CAN EASILY MAKE THE DRIVE BUT PLEASE TRY TO BRING A TRUCK OR SUV. CARS THAT ARE LOW TO THE GROUND WILL NOT ENJOY THIS ROAD. THIS IS OFF ROAD type DRIVING. you may CALL & TALK TO ME FIRST IF YOU PLAN ON DRIVING SO I CAN BRIEF YOU.
FEEL FREE TO JUST COME UP FOR THE DAY ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY IF YOU’D JUST LIKE TO JOIN US FOR a meal. YOU CERTAINLY DON’T HAVE TO CAMP OVER. But, you're most certainly welcome to stay saturday through monday. IF YOU FEEL REAL ADVENTUROUS, COME EARLY AND JOIN US FRIDAY NIGHT, TOO!
I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU, YOUR FAMILY & friends. FLY OR DRIVE SAFE.
