Floyd & Maralyn Tuckness's Chipmunk

My Chipmunk is a 1953 deHavilland Mark 22 or TMark10.  Maralyn's (my wife) is the one that won the award this year at McMinnville.  It is a 1951 Mark 22A (larger fuel tanks). They are both known as Chipmunks as they were designed and the prototype was built at deHavilland Canada. They name all their designs after North American mammals i.e. Chipmunk, Beaver, Otter, Buffalo etc.

The prototype was taken to England and the RAF decided to replace the venerable old Tiger Moth with the Chipmunk as the RAF primary trainer. Ours are all 3 of British origin.

Slightly over 1000 were built in England and just over 200 were built in Canada. The Canadian version is slightly different in that they have a bubble canopy and the gear legs are more straight up and down. The gear legs in the Canadian ones never had the fairing or Spats. The Canadian version also has a manifold heater and several small differences. Not much fits between the British and Canadian versions.
